Brian Junker ready to lead Hampton baseball.
Boys Varsity BaseballALLISON PARK, PA-- During the final interview, Brian Junker was told he would be the next head baseball coach at Hampton. It was somewhat of an unexpected moment for Junker, following his departure from Shaler after 16-seasons. But the excitement he has about coming to Hampton is something that everyone is taking notice of. Aside from all the hardware, a fresh voice is something that is much needed. And yeah… the hardware is an added bonus. “Conversations started during football season,” Junker said. “At that time, I really wasn’t looking to jump back in because football is so demanding. Once the season ended and the position was still open, combined with wanting to spend more time with my family and be there for my son’s senior year, it just felt like the right opportunity.”An opportunity to turn a program around that hasn’t seen the postseason since 2023 and technically hasn’t had a winning season since 2019. Which was also the last time Hampton won their section.

Talbots hold off Ringgold; Advance to WPIAL Semifinals
Boys Varsity BasketballMCMURRAY, PA--Has it sunk in yet? No? OK…Let me help you out. The Hampton Talbots boys’ basketball team has punched its ticket to the WPIAL Class 5A Semifinals following a 48-47 victory over #15 Ringgold Rams. The atmosphere at AHN Arena was electric all night. Both student sections really showed out, pulsating all night. This game was officially a #10 vs #15 matchup, but it felt more like a #8 vs #9 matchup. Something Jonas Cupps, Tanner Ohodnicki, and Luca Romero Lauro all agreed on postgame. Hampton started the game in an all too familiar territory. Down big. Something head coach Joe Cangilla would call the “worst quarter of basketball”. And he’s not wrong. Hampton never got anything going offensively for the first eight minutes. This was thanks to Ringgold's great zone defense early on. It took until the second quarter for Hampton’s offense to find a groove and finally put points on the board. “We tried different templates,” head coach Joe Cangilla said. “I didn’t think t

Hampton defeats Peter's Township in WPIAL 1st Round.
Boys Varsity BasketballMCMURRAY, PA--So… did you enjoy that? They did. And how many of those four pregame keys played out tonight? All of those things played a big factor in Hampton’s 50-45 win over Peters Township in the 1st Round of the WPIAL playoffs. One of the first keys was to avoid a slow start. They did despite trailing by a basket at the end of the first quarter. Hampton worked hard to stay afloat in a hostile environment (which really wasn’t that hostile). Which brings us to our second point, which was to take the crowd out of it early. Especially in a place like that. “We knew there were going to be a lot of people,” said Jonas Cupps. “They had a pretty big crowd. I feel like it never got to me. You always hear them, but you just tune it out.” Yeah… keeping that crowd out of it was huge in addition to having a good start to the game. Something this team is aware of, but didn’t let that happen tonight. It’s a good win. Especially for a team that was disappointed in this round a

Four things to look for vs Peter's Township.
Boys Varsity BasketballMCMURRAY, PA-- Hampton’s boys’ basketball team is about to face its toughest challenge of the season. A road playoff game against a team that could be a dark horse to win the WPIAL Championship. Hampton will look to avoid some kinks that have plagued them all season long. So, if you are going to be in the arena (and I do mean ARENA) or watching the HUDL livestream, here are some things to look for tonight. No slow start. The team has gotten off to a handful of painful starts all season long. In fact, it goes all the way back to the December 4th opener vs Deer Lakes. It cost them at least two section games this season. One against Shaler when they allowed the Titans to score the first ten points of the game. Hampton fought back in that one, but it was too little too late. The other game it cost them was against Penn Hills. Remember that weird 31-26 game? Yeah, that one. In all fairness, the Indians were sluggish all night long, too. They just made a few extra shots. And for an honora

Talbots pull away from Freeport in season finale.
Boys Varsity BasketballALLISON PARK, PA--Freeport had nothing to play for but pride, a strong finish… and Carson Kane.Coming into Monday’s season finale, no one on the Hampton side expected Freeport to make it as close a game as they did. Credit to them. Senior night is a special night. But sometimes the moment can be just a little too distracting. Adding a playoff seed announced, it proved to be “a lot” but not overwhelming. The Talbots had to handle business first in their regular-season finale against Freeport. Not the most dominant performance, but Hampton edged out a 67-59 victory over the Yellow Jackets to end their season on a high note.“We needed it,” said Zach Danner. “We just needed it for the confidence. We needed to know that we can go into a game, go against adversity, and come out with a win regardless of what’s going on.” “Adversity” was felt right out of the gate. Hampton allowed Freeport to score the first ten points of the game, much like what happened at Shaler. But Hampton was a

22 Years...
Boys Varsity BasketballALLISON PARK, PA--Following Kiski’s 64-57 loss to Penn Hills on Thursday, Hampton has officially clinched a spot in the WPIAL playoffs for the 22nd consecutive year. The 2003-04 season was the last time Hampton did not qualify for the postseason. That streak goes longer than any of these players have been alive. But it’s a proud moment for these players to be part of a tradition that goes back so far. “It's amazing,” said Luca Romero Lauro and Jonas Cupps. Romero Lauro continued, “It’s the coaching, it’s the motto of our program. One of our goals was to make the playoffs. Keep that streak alive, that’s what our goal was, and that’s what we set our minds to, and we did it.”First goal accomplished. Obviously, the ultimate goal is to win WPIALs and then some, but this is the first step. “Last year and even this year, we had some doubts,” Cupps explained. “We started off 3-6 last year. Big talks of the streak and keeping it alive was in the locker room.

Hampton's "grit" propels them past Shaler; into postseason.
Boys Varsity BasketballALLISON PARK, PA-- Rivalries are fun, right? I know it’s not UNC-Duke, but to this community, it sure feels like it. It’s something about these games that brings the best in these athletes. The atmosphere could be felt throughout the Hampton High School gym. One of the biggest crowds of the season witnessed Hampton pull away with a 65-56 over the team across the street, the Shaler Titans. The whole place was lively all night, which the players fed off all night and acknowledged.“It was amazing,” said Luca Romero Lauro. “The student section played a huge part in our win. [Shaler] missed a lot of free throws, if I remember correctly. And it was because that student section was getting loud right on the side of them.” That section was PULSATING. Pretty sure they could hear the noise all the way across the street in Glenshaw. “That was by far the biggest student section I’ve ever seen in my four years here,” Jonas Cupps would explain. “That was huge. The energ
